      • Sentinel, ca. 28 Sep 2007 (Sarzo).
. . . The case was one of two convictions handed down that day. Another jury found Randy McKeever, 27, of Washington, D.C. guilty of voluntary manslaughter and use of a handgun in the shooting death of Forestville native Antowne Black, 24, according to a statement from Ivey's office.

McKeever faces up to 30 years in prison: 20 years for the handgun charge and 10 years for the manslaughter charge.

That verdict stemmed from a Jan. 1, 2006 incident where Prince George's County Police responded to a reported shooting at the 5200 block of Marlboro Pike. They found Black dead in his car with a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun on his lap. They also uncovered over $5,000, PCP, a scale, marijuana, pills, 9 mm cartridges, .45 caliber cartridges and a .40 caliber cartridge.

An anonymous citizen called Jan. 4 and told police that McKeever shot the defendant and was later taken to Howard Community Hospital. When they arrived at the hospital, McKeever gave a story about being shot leaving a Metro station in Washington. He claimed he was the victim of an attempted robbery, but he gave his parole officer a different story, according to Ivey's statement.

While on trial, McKeever said Black shot him during a drug transaction in Washington.

"Drug-related violence will not be tolerated," Ivey said in the statement.
