Mr. Anthony Donell Battle, loving father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, went home to be with his Heavenly Father, Monday, Feb. 27, 2009, in Upper Marlboro, Md. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 801 Carver Street in Waco. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco.

Mr. Anthony Battle was born Aug. 8, 1966, in Waco, to the proud parents of Mr. Anthony Wilson and Mrs. Cheryl Yvonne Williams. He accepted the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at an early age and was baptized at Maceodnia Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. U.C. Barnes. Affectionately called "Lil Anthony" and Shortstop," by family and friends, he enjoyed talking about the "good ole days" and lessons taught by Grandmommie and Grandma Paralee. Some of his fondest memories were spent with his sister, Valerie, and his cousins, Lil'Walter and Tiffany Homes, at Grandmommie's house in Waco, during the summer months as a child and teenager. Anthony was always giving great advice to family and friends and would commonly refer to southern colloquialisms.

Lil Anthony's sense of humor was well known and one of a kind. His warmth and wit served him well and taught us all how to enjoy life's simple pleasures and to "go with the flow." He was educated in the public school system in Waco, attending University High School. Upon graduation, he matriculated at McLennan Community College in Waco. Later, he enlisted in the United States Army. After receiving an honorable discharge, Anthony continued his studies at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., pursuing a graduate degree in human resources management. He worked at Friendship Public Charter Schools in Washington, D.C., for nine years as Director of Human Resources.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Cheryl Yvonne Williams; beloved paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mildred Hardin Hubby; beloved paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Paralee Hayes; uncles, Mr. Michael Battle, Mr. Curtis Williamson and Mr. George Williamson Jr.; and his best friend, Mr. Gerald Arrington.

Anthony leaves to cherish his memory his son, Jonathan Battle of Upper Marlboro, Md.; his sister, Valerie Bean and husband, Terry of Houston; his niece, Brittany Bean of Houston; his maternal grandparents, Mrs. Josie Battle and Mr. George Williamson, both of Waco; maternal uncles, Mr. Daniel Battle, Mr. Richard Williamson and Mr. Dwight Battle and wife, Elaine, all of Waco, Mr. Malcolm Battle and wife, Mary Ann and Mr. Johnny Ray Williamson and wife, Katherine, all of Houston, and Mr. Donnie Williams of Dallas; and one maternal aunt, Ms. Wanda Williamson of Marlin; his father, Mr. Anthony Wilson of Waco; paternal uncles, the Rev. Edward Darnell Plump of Los Angeles, Calif., Luther Charles Wilson and wife, Cheryl of Cairo, Egypt, and Clarence Wayne Hubby and wife, Peggy of Forth Worth; two paternal aunts, Mildred Howard of Los Angeles, Calif., and Ms. Annette Wilson Holmes of Leander, Texas; many more relatives and friends; and last but not least, his beloved and cherished dog, "Pebbles."
