A Prince George's County jury yesterday acquitted a Capitol Heights teenager of murder in the shooting death last year of two men during a home invasion in Clinton.

The jury deliberated about a day before acquitting John L. Gibson, 18, of two counts of first-degree murder in the May 9, 2006, attack. About 3:30 p.m. that day, a gunman entered a house in the 6200 block of Hellen Lee Drive and fatally shot Daryl Jones, 20, and David Proctor, 35, during a robbery, prosecutors said.

Brian C. Denton, Gibson's attorney and the county's chief public defender, said that two witnesses, one of them a jailhouse informant, had testified that Gibson admitted to them that he had committed the slayings. Denton had argued that they should not be believed without corroborating physical evidence.
